Congrats - looks good! :tada:

I’ve actually never signed up a LinkedIn account so can’t compare, but curious about the name - does it have a meaning?

No, I just like palindromes and this is a proof that it is a great conversation starter.

Bonus: Much easier to remember because of that.

Looking at the sign-up page. Is someones gender really so important to you?

Hey @wintermeyer, I really loved the website and idea, are you planning to have a LinkedIn → vutuv.de import option in the future? It would be amazing to simplify the profile creation instead of copy/pasting everything.

Would you mind to open an issue in the GitHub repo about this? Please add a description why this is a potential bug and how to solve it best. Thanks!

Amazing! I’ll do, I’ll also follow the guidance in the page for the import, thank you for the help.

I joined and in the meanwhile I absolutely love it.

Thanks! That does mean a lot to me.

It is not a defect, it’s your design I take issue with.

Gender is mandatory, and the default choice is male. There’s no way of saying ‘none of your business’.

IMHO, you should just remove this question. It is irrelevant to whatever your purpose is with the site, or should be.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your perspective. I understand where you’re coming from, even though I see it differently.

For vutuv, I’ve consciously decided to use the options male, female, and other. It’s a product decision, not a statement about how everyone should build their software.

The nice thing about open source is that nobody has to agree with every design choice. If someone believes a different approach is better, they are very welcome to fork the project and adapt it to their own vision. I’d genuinely be happy to see different ideas explored.

My goal with vutuv is to build the platform according to the product vision I have in mind. I don’t expect everyone to agree with every decision, and that’s perfectly fine.

Thanks again for the discussion.

Thank you for your extremely insightful opinion.

This looks awesome. Haven’t checked out the GitHub yet - how long have you been working on it?

Years. I started the project nearly 10 years ago. But it paused for multiple years because of cancer and divorce. I survived both but wasn’t in the mood for this project during that personal Odyssey. I picked up the project a couple of months ago again. Now it is better than ever. It really is fun to see people working with it.

Of course. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Looks nice and friendly!

One nitpick: the design and colour choice. It looks similar to BlueSky and Mastodon. Also, using the default Tailwind CSS styles makes it look a bit generic design-wise.

Beyond that, I think you have something nice and different. That job portal might get you a lot of traffic, and I genuinely think that Vutuv is a nice platform.

I just signed up(it was quick and effortless), I hope everybody else does the same.
